I guess I'm safe in my profession for the time being! I'm curious to know if others really don't hear it--the high-pitched squeal was pretty loud and annoying to me.

Nope, I couldn't hear it, but then I'm somewhat more over 25 than you are.
I think maybe Gus the cat heard it - he swiveled his head when I started it. As for me...nada
I'm safe too! My thirty-year-old ears could hear it.
